Town of Geneva
The Town of Geneva has a considerable amount of land behind and immediately next to Town Hall that is under utilized. In recent years, the Town of Geneva has expressed interest to make use of that space in a manner that benefits the Geneva community. Recently, the Town of Geneva added a recreation fee to new dwellings being constructed in the Town of Geneva. That money must be spent on recreation.
The Geneva Youth Lacrosse organization is by far the most active youth sports organization in Geneva today. Three years ago they started the Kickoff Classic Round Robin in April and the Battle on the Seneca tournament in June. These events have developed into a tremendous success. Last year these two events brought in over 95 teams to Geneva from across New York State and Canada. An estimated 6,000 people attended the Battle on the Seneca Tournament alone. The varsity boys program continues to be a powerhouse, winning the past two sectional finals. The lacrosse program is dedicated to ensuring that the rich tradition that is Geneva Lacrosse continues to move forward into the future.
There is not a youth sports organization in Geneva that has experienced the growth of soccer. The number of kids participating in soccer has grown 72% in the past two years. Over 36 boys signed up for 10-11 year old travel soccer alone. Over the past decade it has experienced a growth of approximately 345%. Last year there were more than 200 boys and girls in Geneva participating in soccer between the ages of 5 and 18. Furthermore, the growth in numbers has led directly to an increase in success. This past fall the boys varsity team reached as high as 12th in the state rankings and also reached the sectional finals, a feat never accomplished in Geneva soccer history thus far. This success is sure to breed greater growth in the program.
